INDUSTRIAL SHED CONVERSION
|AWARD||2015 Gold Coast Winner BDAQ for Residential Alterations/ Additions|
|LOCATION||Palm Beach, Gold Coast, Qld|
This renovation was designed for a young family who were excited about this challenge: to convert a 1960s mechanic shed into their family home.
We chose an industrial style for the interior as it was the most economical transition to retrofit and suited the history of the original building as well as the family. The brief consisted of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a gym, a home office and open plan living, kitchen and dining.
The pallete of materials was chosen to keep within the industrial theme. The main entry and the lounge area have a feature wall of corrugated iron in a silver zincalume finish which helps reflect the natural light. The internal walls were lined in lime washed plywood and the corridors were kept wide as natural lighting in this shed with walls on the boundary is a big issue. All the trusses are exposed thoughout the building, the hardwood ones were stained and the steel trusses were painted black, same as the original colour. Black steel features have been incorporated elsewhere to carry the theme through the building. The concrete floors, although deeply oil stained are now polished and looking great, the history of the building shines through with dark oil patches here and there under the sealer.
